Goans have been advised to avoid visiting Belagavi on Tuesday, as various farmer organisations in Belagavi have decided to support the All India Bandh.

Members of various labour associations have also come out in support of the bandh.

At a joint meeting addressed by Adv Nagesh Sateri and farmer leader Siddagouda Modgi at Ambedkar Garden, Belagavi, on Monday, it was decided that a large number of farmers and workers will assemble at the Rani Chenamma Circle early Tuesday morning and they appealed to citizens to support the bandh.

A protest rally will be also conducted from the Dharmveer Sambhaji Circle (Bogarves) and will proceed via College Road to Rani Chenamma Circle, before culminating at the DC office compound.

The farming leaders have appealed to Goans to avoid visiting Belagavi on Tuesday, as they could face inconveniences on account of the All India Bandh.

“As many as 32 organisations have supported the Bandh and it will be successful,” prominent farmer leader Siddagouda Moudgi told The Goan.

“We will assemble at Chenamma circle 6.30 am onwards. From there, we will be proceed via College Road, Dharmveer Sambhaji Circle, Kirloskar Road, Ramdev Galli, Khade Bazaar, Market Police Station, RTO Circle and reach DC office.”

“We have urged traders, auto owners, APMC members and street vendors to support us. As large numbers of farmers are expected to take part in the rally, we expect the bandh to be total.”

Added Sambhajirao Hongekar: “It all depends upon how long the impact of the bandh remains in the district. If vegetable growing farmers too join the protesting farmers, then vegetable growing farmers from Belagavi district and onion suppliers from Maharashtra may not reach the wholesale markets and this could affect vegetable supplies to Goa.”
