Goa has been experiencing higher-than-normal temperatures for the last two days with the maximum temperature reaching a little above 36°C on Tuesday. However, it was a slight drop from 37.4°C recorded on Monday.

The minimum temperature stood at 22°C-23°C on Tuesday while the humidity level dropped to about 68 per cent.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa, the maximum temperature over the next seven days is expected to range between 35°C and 37°C while the minimum temperature will be between 21°C and 23°C. Humidity levels are predicted to rise to 80 per cent in the coming days.

Although the heat remains tolerable for the general public, IMD Goa has warned that vulnerable groups including infants, the elderly and persons with chronic illnesses, may experience moderate health concerns.

The impact of the above-normal temperatures includes an increased risk of dehydration due to excessive heat, higher chances of dry grass catching fire, increasing fire hazards and the possibility of heat cramps and heat rashes, especially during peak hours between 11 am and 3 pm.

As such, it has advised people to take necessary precautions, including staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

NO HEATWAVE WARNING: The IMD Goa website states that a heatwave in coastal stations is declared when the maximum temperature is 4.5°C or more above normal and reaches 37°C or higher. While Tuesday’s temperature touched 37.4°C, meeting the heatwave threshold, no official heatwave warning has been issued.

IMD Official Nahush Kulkarni confirmed that no warning has been issued for Goa while explaining that hot and humid weather is forecasted.

“The expected temperature for the next three days will be very likely to be 35°C-37°C. It is expected to decrease gradually from the third day onwards,” he added, speaking to The Goan.
