Goldsmith booked for misappropriating gold, cash worth Rs 23.26 lakh

A goldsmith has been booked by Pernem police on charges of misappropriating gold, cash worth Rs 23.26 lakh.

A complaint filed by a goldsmith Rutvik Pandurkar (22) of Nagzar-Pernem stated that sometime between September and November at Dhargal-Pernem, the accused Raju Sonar, a goldsmith/artisan hailing from Belagavi but residing at Dhargal, was entrusted with old gold ornaments worth Rs 18.16 lakh and cash of Rs 5.2 lakh by the complainant and other persons to prepare new gold jewellery.

The complaint further stated that the accused is alleged to have dishonestly misappropriated the gold and cash worth Rs 23.36 lakh for his personal use and did not return the gold jewellery or cash, thereby cheating the complainant and various other persons.

Pernem police has registered a case under Section 316(2) and 318(4) of BNS and Pernem PSI Vivek Halarnkar is conducting further investigation.
