Good news for tiatr lovers, Ravindra Bhavan canteen set to resume ops after long closure

MARGAO

There’s finally good news in store for Tiatr lovers watching their favourite drama at Ravindra Bhavan Margao.

Canteen facility at the Ravindra Bhavan is all set to resume again in the next few days, three years after it was shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In fact, the Ravindra Bhavan is believed to have sent a letter of intent to the successful bidder to come and ink the agreement to run the facility for the next one year, with officials saying it would be a matter of days before the canteen facility is restored at the cultural institution.

Sources informed that Ravindra Bhavan had opened the bids last week, after which the officials shortlisted the highest and most successful bidder.

Visitors to the Ravindra Bhavan, including Tiatr lovers had been knocking on the doors of the authorities, including the Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, with a plea to reopen the canteen facility shut during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the Minister had been assuring and reassuring to reopen the facility sooner over the last one year and a half, the facility could not resume on the plea they could not shortlist the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to run the canteen.

Things, however, changed for the better after the government appointed filmmaker Rajendra Talak as the Chairman to head the Ravindra Bhavan.

In fact, the first governing Council meeting of the Ravindra Bhavan chaired by Talak adopted the resolution to reopen the canteen facility by floating an open tender.

In the absence of a canteen facility, tiatr lovers were left with no option but to meet their tea and snacks requirements from a makeshift facility run from the ticket counter over the last few months.

Meanwhile, the repair and maintenance of the public toilets at the Ravindra Bhavan is almost complete, with the new committee providing top most priority to tone up the sanitation facility at the premier cultural institution.
