MARGAO
Saying that Goa is blessed with beautiful villages, Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai has on Wednesday underscored the need to preserve the culture and credibility of Goa though the State is known as a tourist destination.
He further reminded the elected representatives that they are servants of the people and are bound to serve the people.
“Tourists come in droves to see beautiful Goa. I do not want to say you restrict the enjoyment of the tourists, who come to enjoy the State’s beauty, but at the same time, there’s a need to preserve the culture and credibility of Goa. Since I assumed office as the State Governor, I have visited around 100 villages and I would like to say, the villages in Goa are more beautiful. I will come out with a book on the villages. I do not want to compare the villages to the beaches, but the villages are simply beautiful”, he said, while addressing a function organized at the Hari Mandir Temple, Margao on Wednesday.
He reminded the elected representatives that they are the servants of the people. “I am the Head of the State, but I am not saying we are supreme. I am not even saying the Supreme Court is supreme, but what is supreme is dharma. If there is proper dharma, there is no need for a government or a King. That is our ancient philosophy”, he said.
Union Minister Shripad Naik, State Ministers -- Subhash Phaldesai, Sudin Dhavalikar -- and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai were also present.
