PANAJI: Governor and Goa University Chancellor P S Sreedharan Pillai has assured the National Students’ Union of India Goa Unit (NSUI) and the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) that the alleged question paper leak is being taken seriously.
The assurance came after NSUI Goa Unit Chief Naushad Chowdhari along with IYC representatives, submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.
Chowdhari criticized the GU's internal fact-finding committee, questioning its credibility and calling for the immediate termination of the professor allegedly involved in the leak. He also demanded action against university officials accused of covering up the incident.
“The scandal has been suppressed for months, raising concerns about corruption, nepotism and a lack of accountability within the institution,” Chowdhari claimed, warning that such actions compromise the university’s credibility and put students’ futures at risk.
GU Vice Chancellor Harilal Menon on Monday appointed the fact finding committee to probe the allegations, and a deadline of 48 hours to submit the report.
NSUI has however called for an independent inquiry by a neutral investigative body to uncover the full extent of corruption within the university.
NSUI also urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who holds the education portfolio, to clarify his stance on the issue.
“If authorities fail to act, we will be forced to escalate our protest to safeguard students’ rights and restore integrity in Goa University,” Chowdhari warned.
