PANAJI: Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai has urged students to study the life and contribution of freedom fighter Libia Lobo Sardesai, to be recipient of Padma Shri, towards Goa's liberation.
He made these remarks after felicitating Lobo Sardesai (102) at her Panaji residence for being honoured with the Padma Shri award. The award recognizes her role in Goa’s freedom struggle, including operating a clandestine radio station from forested areas during the liberation movement.
The Governor also expressed pride in her recognition by the Central Government. “The proposal to honour her was accepted, and the Padma Shri award bestowed upon her is a fitting tribute to her dedication. On behalf of Goa and the Central Government, I congratulate her and pray for her continued health and strength," he added.
Lobo Sardesai, humbled by the honour, credited her achievements to divine grace. “I thank God for this good fortune in my lifetime, even at this stage. Without God’s grace, none of this would have been possible. I don’t think I did anything extraordinary; I simply did what came my way. I am deeply honoured by the Governor’s visit to my home. Though people say I have done many things, I feel I am just a simple person who accepts whatever comes my way. This honour is truly a blessing,” she said.
