The Goa Forward Party has charged that the government continues to show blatant disregard for the unemployment crisis, despite Goa being the most educated State in the country. Instead of prioritising employment opportunities for Goans, the government seems determined to offer jobs to non-Goans, party leader Prashant Naik told the media on Saturday.
Citing an example, Naik said December 21, 2023 notification issued by the Registrar of Goa University for the School of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences, states that four posts were advertised: Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), with two posts unreserved and one post each for OBC and ST categories.
He said the eligibility criteria included compulsory knowledge of Konkani, 15 years of domicile in Goa, and desirable knowledge of Marathi. “Applications were received, interviews were conducted, and selections were made. However, because of the Konkani and domicile criteria, the government was unable to appoint the non-Goans they had intended to select for these positions. As a result, on February 2, 2024, Goa University issued a suo-moto notification reducing the advertised posts from four to just two, both unreserved. The ST and OBC posts were scrapped, and shockingly, both the Konkani language and domicile requirements were removed,” he said adding ‘this is a clear case of injustice against Goa’s educated youth, and it will not be tolerated’.
Demanding that previous notification advertising four posts be restored and that these positions be filled by Goans, as originally intended, the Goa Forward Party has given Goa University and the government seven days to address this issue.
