Sending a message loud and clear that the patience of Cuncolkars is running out over pollution at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Friday warned that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will be personally responsible for any law and order problem in Cuncolim over pollution.

The Opposition leader, who represents Cuncolim constituency in the Goa Legislative Assembly, issued the warning after the media sought his comments on the invitation made by the owners of fish processing units to inspect the units at the Cuncolim IDC. “These are all lollipops offered by these parties. People of Cuncolim will not fall prey to these lollipops. They want a total stop to pollution. We have heard these units blaming a fish meal plant for the pollution. We do not want to go into this blame game. What we are demanding is a stop to pollution,” he said.

He added: “The patience of Cuncolkars is running out. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had given a host of promises and assurances to curb pollution, but in vain. We want total stop to pollution.”

The Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao on Friday laid the foundation stone for Futsal Ground at Maddicotto Cuncolim and urged youth to develop true sportsmanship spirit.

Cuncolim chairperson Landry Mascarenhas, Councillor Polita Carneiro, former chairperson Laxman Naik and others were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Yuri said that football is in the blood of every Goan and hence this sports needs to be fostered. “I feel very bad to see that the football standard is dropping in the State. We need to check the reasons behind it and take corrective measures so that our youth get opportunities at State and national level,” Alemao said.

He added: “The sports department should take steps to encourage youth. I am confident that this project will encourage youth in the sports arena and instill team spirit and discipline in the young minds. Youth should avail facility and develop true sportsmanship spirit.”
