CM highlights Sagarmala projects and new transport initiatives at national meet

Apart from exploring new avenues like Ro-Ro services and the Water Metro, the Goa government is working towards port-linked industrialisation to boost exports.
On Wednesday, CM Pramod Sawant attended the National Sagarmala Apex Committee Meeting in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, and also included Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, along with representatives from coastal states and officials.
According to a press statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Chief Minister spoke about various Sagarmala projects, including port modernisation and upgrading jetties to improve hinterland tourism and daily travel.
“Port-linked industrialisation aims to unlock the potential of port-led development through exports, as envisioned by the Union Government under the leadership of the Prime Minister,” the CMO stated.
The CMO further said that the CM stated that coastal community development remains a key focus, with efforts directed towards skill enhancement, social and financial inclusion, and economic growth, while also exploring new avenues such as Ro-Ro services and the Water Metro, among others.
Later in the day, the CM met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in New Delhi.
“Our discussions focused on key aspects of highway development in Goa, emphasising infrastructure enhancement, connectivity improvements, and the state’s overall progress,” he posted on X.
On Tuesday, the CM had met and interacted with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
“Briefed the Hon. HM on key issues, including the state’s progress in implementing the new criminal laws, developments in the mining sector, and sought his guidance on furthering administrative and developmental initiatives,” he had posted on X.
Sawant had also met Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
“We had a discussion on key initiatives to enhance railway operations in Goa, including the expansion of services, introducing fast trains along the Pernem-Canacona corridor, and the development of Maem Railway Station. We also discussed the upgrading of Margao Railway Station through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, among other vital infrastructure advancements,” the CM said about the meeting.
