Govt strengthens night patrolling along Beach belt to control crime & loud music

PANAJI: At the backdrop of a series of incidents in Calangute, the State government has decided to strengthen night patrolling along the coastal belt by deploying at least 40 per cent of the police force. 

Addressing a press conference, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that he already had a meeting with the police department and has asked to enhance the night patrolling along the coastal belt. 

Sawant also said that directions have been issued to ensure that no outdoor music is allowed after 10.00 pm and indoors, only those with valid permissions would be permitted. 

Responding to the questions, the Chief Minister also said that the transfer process of police personnel, who have been at one posting for three or more years, would be completed within the next eight to ten days. 

He reiterated the importance of tenant verification, warning that failure to provide accurate tenant details could result in fines of up to Rs. 10,000.

 “The police will be conducting spontaneous checks on rented houses to ensure compliance,” said Sawant.

Addressing misconceptions regarding the 'Bal Rath' bus scheme, Sawant clarified that the scheme has not been scrapped and continues to operate uninterrupted, although no new buses will be introduced. 

He said that the the school management will have to purchase if required from the maintenance grants that is provided to them. He said schools get around Rs 4.5 lakh annually towards Bal Rath maintenance. 

Furthermore, the Cabinet has decided to re-employ 11 retired headmasters till the end of the ongoing academic term.
