Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Thursday said the State government would announce the solar energy policy in the upcoming assembly session which begins from July 8.

"At present, 70-80 Mw of electricity is produced in the State through solar projects, gas energy or other private projects of Sesa Goa. Our aim is that we should cross 150 Mw in one year,” said Dhavalikar.

There are 200 agriculture pumps that we have to convert to solar energy in six months, he added.

The minister hinted that commercial establishments like the Bagayatdar and Adarsh Society which are working in collaboration with the agriculture sector will be encouraged to move towards solar energy.

The new 40 Kw Solar power roof top grid connection system was inaugurated at the Secretariat in Porvorim. The plant is the 13th such project on a government building and all these 13 projects will generate 1.5 Mw of power. The government will save Rs 30,000 per month.

According to the GEDA, the government is planning to increase solar energy generation by 10 times to 7500 Mw. At present the state is producing 700 Mw.

Manoj Sail of Agarwal Renewable in his presentation said the Secretariat’s total electricity load is around 550 Kw and the new solar plant will generate 40 Kw per month.

“This will save 17 percent of consumption and the project cost of Rs 20 lakh will be recovered in 5 years,” said Sail.
