Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said late Sunday evening that the State government will reconstruct the Dev Khapreshwar temple at Porvorim at the new site where the linked banyan tree is being translocated but the assurance failed to pacify the restive crowd gathered at the site where workers under heavy police protection were demolishing the temple and pruning the tree to prepare it for the translocation process.
"Dev Khapreshwar Temple will be reconstructed by the Goa government at the new site of the transplanted banyan tree," a one-line statement released by the Chief Minister's office on Sunday evening said.
