Residents on Sunday strongly opposed the proposed Rs 8 crore multi-purpose parking project by the Tourism Department at the beachside in Temwada-Morjim.

At the Gram Sabha chaired by Sarpanch Pawan Morje, residents claimed the project would create more problems for the village. They feared a wide road would need to be built to access the parking area, potentially leading to the demolition of roadside houses.

Residents also alleged that many non-Goans had purchased land near the proposed site, raising concerns that the road would benefit real estate developers planning large coastal projects. They questioned the purpose of the project, its beneficiaries, and whether permissions from GCZMA and other authorities had been obtained.

A resident warned that locals would strongly oppose the project if the government proceeded with it.

During discussions, Tukaram Shetgaonkar questioned whether the panchayat collects Aadhaar card copies from complainants to verify their authenticity. In response, Morje confirmed that Aadhaar and other ID copies would be sought for complaints related to construction or other issues. To another query on making tax collection data available online, Morje said efforts would be made with help from the technical section.

Deepak Shetgaonkar highlighted improper garbage collection as a growing concern in Morjim. Deputy Sarpanch Supriya Pokhe and panchayat members Vilas Morje, Fatu Shetgaonkar, Swapnil Shetgaonkar, Mukesh Gadekar, Rajni Shirodkar, and Mandar Pokhe were also present.
