Goa-based green energy and electronic manufacturing players could benefit from a US plan to engage their researchers and industry experts to collaborate for technology exchange and other partnerships.

Mike Hankey, the diplomat who heads the US Consulate General in Mumbai, told reporters at an interaction in Panaji that he met with industrialists in this field through the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Goa and was impressed with the ideas for cooperation put forth by them.

Hankey is on a visit to Goa and said, he foresees opportunities for collaboration between stakeholders in US doing advanced work in these fields to bring in cutting edge solutions to some of the problems faced.

One initiative that is being worked on is to bring researchers and businesses to support each other -- get businesses and researchers in the same room, Hankey said, adding that US national laboratories which are funded by the department of energy could be brought on board.

“They are all interested and are in talks now with the Indian side, whether national laboratories or universities,” Hankey said, adding that Indian and US companies are already signed up.

Meanwhile, Hankey declined to take questions on the big story around the indictment of Indian top industrialist Gautam Adani by the US government agencies and regulatory bodies.

“This is an ongoing case being handled by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) and the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC). It is for them to say,” Hankey said when asked for comments on the row.
