GSL partners with IIT Hyderabad to introduce AI-driven innovations in shipbuilding

PANAJI: Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into shipbuilding processes. 

The collaboration, supported by technology partners Neer Interactive Solutions Pvt. Ltd., the Centre for Geospatial AI and Digital Twins (CGDT), and Andhra Mahila Sabha (AMS) Arts and Science College, aims to enhance vessel design, improve shipyard security, and boost operational efficiency.

The MoU, signed yesterday, aims to incorporate AI technologies, Geospatial Digital Twin solutions, and Industry 4.0 principles to improve ship design, security, and operational efficiency. The collaboration will strengthen the technological capabilities of GSL and IIT Hyderabad, enhancing vessel design processes and implementing digital solutions in shipyards.


Key aspects of the partnership include the use of AI-driven generative design tools to streamline shipbuilding processes and improve accuracy, along with digital twin solutions to enhance safety and security protocols. Geospatial technologies will also play a role in improving shipyard operations.

The MoU was signed in the presence of GSL Chairman and Managing Director BK Upadhyay, IIT Hyderabad Director Dr. B S  Murty, GSL GM (TS) Cmde  A Vasudevan (Retd.), Neer Interactive Solutions CEO Jai Sankar Aluru, and AMS Chairman Sri Dittakavi Chakrapani IAS (Retd.).

This collaboration is expected to improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability within India's maritime sector by integrating AI into shipbuilding practices.
