The Guirim Panchayat Ghar and the Government School at Namoshi-Guirim have been closed for the past few days after the structures were surrounded by rainwater, disrupting work in the panchayat office and classes at the school.

Students are unable to attend school due to waterlogging in the school premises, while the panchayat office cannot open because of water entering the Panchayat Ghar. The area flooded due to heavy rains on July 7 and 8, and with rains continuing until July 15, the rainwater has not receded in the area.

“This is the first time that the Guirim Panchayat Ghar has had to close for eight days because the office premises are flooded,” said Guirim Sarpanch Babaji Gadekar.

“We have informed the Block Development Office, and the Directorate of Panchayats has been asked to provide alternative premises for the Guirim Panchayat until this issue is resolved,” he added.

Many blame encroachments on farmland in Guirim and a lack of planning in the construction of national highways for the floods in the area.
