Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai said that it is preferable for the medium of study to be in the mother tongue. “Making the subject matter in the mother tongue enriches the language and preserves the cultural heritage,” he added.
The Governor was speaking after releasing four books by Central Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar-winning Konkani poetess Shraddha Garad at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
Jnanpith winner Damodar Mauzo, Pachu Menon, Gajanan Velip, and Shraddha Garad received the first copies of the books. MRM Rao, IAS, Secretary to the Governor, graced the occasion.
The Governor handed over financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to Shraddha Garad, who is undergoing medical treatment. Earlier, Dinesh Manerkar welcomed the guests.
