Guv urges people to follow Mahatma Gandhi’s principles

Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai extended his greetings to the people on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. In his message, the Governor stated that Gandhi Jayanti is one of India’s most significant national events, celebrated every year on 2nd October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

“We celebrate this day every year with great joy to honour the Father of the Nation and to reflect on his values, principles, and philosophy. 2nd October is also observed globally as the International Day of Non-Violence, as Gandhiji was a lifelong advocate of non-violence. We remember him as Bapu, a symbol of peace, non-violence, and truth,” the Governor said.

The Governor continued, “Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, known as Mahatma Gandhi, was a well-known freedom fighter and influential political leader who played a key role in India’s fight for Independence from British rule. He aimed to create a new society based on non-violence and integrity. His iconic methods of truth and non-violence in the fight for freedom have inspired many leaders worldwide in their battles against injustice. He promoted spinning and weaving as symbols of self-reliance and self-governance.”

The Governor also mentioned that 2nd October is observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas in honour of Mahatma Gandhi. “He fought for the rights of the poor and marginalised, and he dreamed of an India free from the evil of untouchability,” he added.

“Mahatma Gandhi’s life and principles have inspired people of all ages,” the Governor said, urging everyone to follow the values set by Mahatma Gandhi.
