PANAJI: Internet services at Patto, Panaji were disrupted earlier today after the Electricity department snapped fibre cables that were hanging from electric poles.
The move comes since the internet service providers ignored dept's notice to remove the cables.
Executive Engineer (Electricity) Kashinath Shetye, said they will conduct weekly drives to remove unauthorized overhead internet cables that do not generate revenue.
"Cable providers must secure the necessary licenses and shift to underground cabling to comply with the new regulations. The cables are a mess, and pose a danger to motorists as they just hang," he said.
Shetye confirmed that the drive to remove such cables will continue across Goa.
As of now, internet providers are at the site to restore services to the affected areas. The disruption has caused inconvenience to residents and businesses relying on the internet for daily operations.
