PANAJI:

Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane on Thursday warned those operating food establishments of an imposter posing as a Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) official demanding bribes, especially in the Calangute area.

Rane said he has asked FDA Director Swetha Desai to lodge an FIR with the police and ensure stern action.

The individual, fluent in Konkani has reportedly made telephonic calls to business owners in Calangute threatening them with serious consequences if they don't cough up the cash, he said.

He has been posing as Soiru Naik Tuenkar and sometimes as Sarvesh Naik Tuvemkar, Rane said, adding that the calls have reportedly been made from two numbers: 8747850885 and 9356278836.

"FDA office has no affiliation with such a person," Rane said in a long post on his 'X' (formerly Twitter) handle.
