Ruling BJP leaders, besides friends and well-wishers from all walks of life, descended at the Manora grounds, Raia to partake in the birthday celebration of social worker and BJP ST leader, Anthony Barbosa on Thursday evening.

State BJP president Sadanand Tanavade, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, former Minister Churchill Alemao, former MP Narendra Sawaikar, former MLA Damu Naik, Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar were amongst the leaders who attended the birthday celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP president Tanavade said that Anthony Barbosa has not stopped serving society despite his defeat in the 2022 Assembly polls. “I have been closely watching Barbosa and his work for the needy. He often comes to Panaji with the issues and problems of the people. Even when we cannot meet him, he does not return home disappointed, but makes sure he comes back and get the work done,” he said.

Tanavade said though Anthony had gone abroad for employment in his early life, he has returned home to serve society. Saying the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was scheduled to participate in the birthday celebrations, Tanavade said the last-minute programme prevented the Chief Minister from making it to the function.

In his address, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude said Anthony Barbosa is on the field working for the poor and the downtrodden. “His passion for art and culture, besides sports is well known,” Gaude said, while wishing Anthony the very best in life.

Speaking on the occasion, former Minister Churchill Alemao said that Anthony Barbosa is a grassroot leader working for the needy and the downtrodden, always ready to lend a helping hand to the people in need.

Anthony Barbosa thanked the guests and his friends and well-wishers for their love and blessings showered on him on his birthday as he committed himself to work for the people and the society.

On the occasion, Master Composer Edwin D’Costa staged a musical evening at the Manora grounds, which was well attended. A special song composed by Edwin appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ensure that Pope Francis visits Goa in the near future and also name Mopa airport after the father of Opinion Poll as demanded by former minister Churchill Alemao.

Personalities from various fields were honoured at the hands of the guests on the occasion.
