OLD GOA
A group of locals from the St Cruz constituency and nearby areas paid tribute to late Dr Jack de Sequeira on his 110th birth anniversary by garlanding his bust at Merces on Sunday.
Those present included Merces Sarpanch Sushant Govekar, St Cruz Congress Block President John Nazareth, Jose Carmin Joao, Sebastiao Fernandes, and others.
Speaking at the event, Sarpanch Govekar praised Dr Sequeira, calling him a great leader whose contributions to Goa were unmatched. John Nazareth remembered Dr Sequeira’s key role in securing the Opinion Poll for Goa and said the government should properly honour his legacy for helping Goa remain a separate State.
A young girl, Shanaiah Marques, sang a birthday song in Konkani and said children should learn about Dr Sequeira’s efforts in preserving Goa’s identity. Earlier, Govekar and Nazareth garlanded Dr Sequeira’s bust.
