Huge waves triggered by the cyclonic conditions in the Arabian Sea battered the Colva coastline on Thursday, causing sea erosion.

In fact, the rising sea water inundated large tracts of the iconic beach, as waves battered the coastline since the last two days. Domestic tourists had to be content with the prevailing situation as they stopped from going in the choppy waters in view of the prevailing conditions.

Many a tourist, including children were seen playing on the coastal belt with the sea water almost covering the beach area.

Drishti General Manager, Operation and Training, Col Austin Colaco told the media that the situation prevailing at the Colva beach is due to the high waves triggered by the cyclonic effect. He said though the cyclonic conditions have been prevailing 150 kms away from the Goa coast, the coast has been hit by huge wages as evident by the erosion that has taken place in the last two days.

“The beach is under water because of the cyclonic conditions. Lot of erosion has taken place along the coastline. The visitors to the beach have been warned about the sea conditions,” he said.

He added that since outstation tourists come to the beach, they are allowed to enter into ankle deep water so as not to disappoint them.

“Entering the water is out of question because we cannot even operate the jet skis because of the high waves around 2-3 metres high waves that have battered the coastline,” he added.
