The International Film Festival of India has been held in Goa since 2004 under the leadership of Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar. The internationally acclaimed festival that attracts footfalls of celebrities from Hollywood and Bollywood and other national and international film industries has seen a decline in the number of Goan participants over the years.

The representation and participation of Goans in the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) over the past one decade has registered a decrease. In the 45th IFFI in 2014 the total Goan representatives were 49.68 % which was reduced in 2023 to 36.77 %. In 2015 the participation of Goan representatives in IFFI had increased and it was 53.19 % but the following year, in 2016 it reduced significantly, to 34.46 %. In 2017 it was 41.91 % and all the IFFIs after this year the participation by Goan representatives has not gone beyond 40 %. In 2018, the 49th IFFI saw 38.77 % Goans, and the 50th IFFI in 2019 it dropped to 26.66 %. During the Covid pandemic in 2020, the 51st IFFI was organised in 2021 January, where 32 % Goans had participated. In 52nd IFFI there were 30 % Goans and 53rd IFFI saw only 2101 Goans. Last year’s 54th IFFI had 36.77 % Goans.

The reduction in the number of international participants is also significant in the past nine years. The 2014 IFFI there were 163 international representatives. In 2022 the number was only 33. It grew in 2023 to 162.
