PANAJI:
Pointing out that there is a distinct distinction between illegal and irregular Constructions, Goa Chief minister Pramod Sawant today said that the government will explore the possibility of bringing in a law to protect the affected parties.
Sawant told the House that the government is carefully reviewing the High Court’s order on illegal constructions and would take appropriate steps.
“We are examining the order further, and wherever required, we will explore the possibility of bringing in a law/ legislation to protect the rights of the affected people, if deemed necessary,” he assured on the Floor.
"At this junction, I would like to point out that there is no need for the law-abiding general public to panic. We need to make a distinct distinction between illegal and irregular constructions," he added.
This statement comes following the directions from Panchayat department and department of Urban Development to the local bodies-village panchayats and Municipalities to conduct survey and identify the illegal Constructions and take necessary action as per the order of the Bombay High Court at Goa.
The Chief Minister said that the High Court has indeed passed an order dated March 6th, 2025, wherein various authorities have been directed to take certain actions. In compliance with this order, some authorities have already initiated steps.
Sawant assured law-abiding citizens that there is no need to panic.
