In a bid to promote Sanskrit language and Vedas, the State government has announced financial grants to the Sanskrit patshalas and kendras, who are functioning on the line of traditional residential Gurukuls, from the current academic year 2023-24.
In a notification issued, Director Education Shailesh Zingade said that the proposal to release grant-in-aid to the Sanskrit patshalas and kendras for the promotion of Sanskrit Language and Sanskrit Veda was under the consideration of the State government for quite some time and finally the government has sanctioned grants to all such recognised institutes.
He said that the objective is to encourage the promotion of Sanskrit language and Sanskrit Veda. “It will provide an opportunity to the managements of such patshalas and kendras to develop and improve the requisite infrastructure as well as build-up a resource in their residential Gurukuls/Vedadhyayan Kendras,” he said.
In Goa, there are three each Sanskrit patshalas and Sanskrit kendras.
The State will release 100 per cent salary grants to the institutions while Rs 5 lakh yearly maintenance grants for patshalas and Rs 1 lakh for kendras would be released. The institutions will also receive mess grants or food expense of Rs 70 per day per student for eleven months or actual days of attendance.
The non-salary grants will be released in two instalments. First instalment will be released in August annually and second in January every year provided the audited statements are received by September 30 of that year.
“The expenditure on above stated items is admissible with effect from the academic year 2023-24 based on the production of Audited Statement duly approved by a registered Chartered Accountant and will be subject to the internal audit by the Directorate of Education,” the Director said.
