Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday was candid in conceding that the buildings housing the government multipurpose school complex, Borda, including the ITI and the schools, are not in a good condition.
In fact, the CM has mulled shifting the ITI, the primary school and the higher secondary school to a private building for a year. Sawant has promised to take certain decisions in the next eight days in connection with the multipurpose school complex.
The Chief Minister along with top education officials, including directors, Prasad Lolienkar and Bhushan Sawaikar, officials of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat inspected the entire multipurpose building complex and saw for themselves the state of the structure. The Chief Minister also came across water logging and litter around the complex, expressing his disappointment over the situation.
After taking stock of the situation, the Chief Minister said the government had embarked on a new complex to house the ITI, high school, higher secondary school some time back. He said the government will take a decision on the demolition of old buildings to pave the way for the construction of new buildings in their place.
In this respect, the Chief Minister mulled shifting the ITI to a private building. He also said that if the time comes, the government will not mind shifting the primary school and the higher secondary school into a building manned by a private institution for a year. “The government is committed to building a new complex. We are concerned about the students to give them good education and good infrastructure,” he told the media, saying that he would make certain decisions in the next eight days as the State’s Education Minister.
Incidentally, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai, who represents the Fatorda constituency, had earlier this week expressed concern over the state of the buildings at the multipurpose complex in Borda while flagging the slow pace of work in building a new complex. Sardesai had told the media that he would call on the Chief Minister, who also holds the education portfolio, to get the issues plaguing the Borda multipurpose school complex resolved before he raises the issues on the floor of the Assembly in the forthcoming Assembly session.
