PANAJI:

Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited on Tuesday took a crucial step in the direction of drawing up a Heat Action Plan (HAP) for the capital city, inking a deal with the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW).

The deal envisages a collaborative effort to develop a comprehensive Heat Action Plan (HAP) for the capital, including mapping heat risks at the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) ward level, besides putting in place an index synthesising humidity and atmospheric temperature data.

The heat plan will also establish localised heat thresholds to trigger early warnings and engage residents in heat risk mitigation efforts.

According to the MoU signed by IPSCDL and CEEW, strategies for urban cooling and pin-pointed interventions will also be drawn to protect Panaji’s vulnerable populations such those who operate outdoors and seniors.

IPSCDL said, the idea for the HAP germinated from data and statistics on Goa's weather over 125 years wherein the State's average temperature has spiked by 1.44 degrees centigrade in one century and is projected to rise by another two degrees in the next decade.
