A large group of Iranian tourists departed from Dabolim Airport on Friday evening, carrying home cherished memories of their holiday in Goa.

Their visit, marked by a blend of cultural exchange, scenic explorations, and warm Goan hospitality, has paved the way for increased tourist inflows from Iran, with plans already in place for another visit during the next Navroz festival and possibly in November when Goa’s peak season begins.

The first direct flight from Iran to Goa, carrying 140 passengers, arrived on March 19, during the Navroz festival holidays in Iran. The Iranian visitors were welcomed with Goa’s signature warmth—a live performance by a traditional Goan brass band, fragrant roses, and a taste of Goa’s famous dessert, Bebinca.

In total, there were three flights between March 19 and April 4, bringing in nearly 450 Iranian tourists.

EXPERIENCES IN GOA

Sahar Abvabi, manager of Ahuan Travels, the agency responsible for bringing the Iranian tourists, expressed delight over the overwhelming response.

“Goa has left an indelible mark on the hearts of our tourists. Many had never imagined it to be such a paradise, but what they experienced here was beyond their expectations. From stunning beaches to vibrant markets, historic churches, and warm locals, Goa has truly enchanted them,” she said.

She further emphasised the deep cultural connection between India and Iran, especially through Navroz, stating, “This was the first direct flight from Iran to Goa, but it certainly won’t be the last. We are planning to bring more tourists not only for the next Navroz but also as early as November, which is an ideal time to experience Goa’s full charm.”

“The tourists made the most of their time, visiting Goa’s famous churches, bustling cityscapes, and picturesque beaches. From the historic charm of Old Goa to the lively atmosphere of Panaji, they immersed themselves in Goa’s diverse cultural heritage.”

“Travelling is about embracing new cultures, and our guests loved every bit of Goa—the flavours, the landscapes, and most importantly, the people. Goans are known for their genuine hospitality, and that made all the difference,” Abvabi added.

While the warm tropical weather and spicy Goan cuisine were an adjustment for the Iranian visitors, they embraced the uniqueness of the experience. “The essence of travel lies in discovering differences, and our tourists truly appreciated the authenticity of Goa. They can’t wait to return!” she said.

PRAISE FOR GOA TOURISM

Abvabi said the success of this initiative owes much to the proactive efforts of the Tourism Department, which played a crucial role in ensuring a seamless and memorable experience for the visitors.

“The grand welcome at the airport with traditional Goan music, flowers, and sweets was something extraordinary. It set the perfect tone for their visit and left a lasting impression. The support from Goa Tourism has been phenomenal, and we are truly grateful for their efforts in making this tour so special,” Abvabi stated.
