The South Goa Sessions Court will finally pronounce the order in the sensational 2017 rape and murder of young Irish national Danielle McLaughlin on Friday noon.

The Court was scheduled to pronounce the verdict in the case on Thursday after adjourning the matter on Wednesday. However, the matter was adjourned for a day and the Court of Additional Sessions is expected to pronounce the order on Friday noon.

The body of 28-year-old Irish girl was found in Canacona taluka in the year 2017.  Sustained investigations by the Canacona police led the men in uniform to zero in on accused Vikat Bhagat. The accused was later charged by the police for rape and murder of the Irish national.

The victim’s mother and sister have been down to Goa in anticipation that the South Goa Sessions Court will pronounce the order in Danielle rape and murder.

The lawyer representing the victim Danielle McLaughlin, Adv Vikram Varma told the media outside the South Goa Sessions Court that the matter has been adjourned to Friday noon.

“The victim was found brutally murdered after being raped and the evidence collected by the police has indicated that it was the accused who was involved in the crime. This was further confirmed after detailed investigations by the police over many months before the accused was chargesheeted in the court,” he added.

Asked for his opinion in the matter, Adv Vikram said the prosecution has relied on indirect evidence since there were no eye witnesses to prove she was taken to the jungle before she was raped and murdered. The prosecution has relied on circumstantial evidence. We are hopeful that justice will be meted out by the Court. The prosecution has put the evidence. The mind of the Judge is never known unless she pronounces her judgement,” he added.
