MARGAO
An inspection of the structures at the Cutbona fishing jetty on Thursday has revealed that 10 out of the 60 structures were conducting the business of eateries.

Deputy Collector, Ganesh Barve, Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar and officials of other agencies descended at the Cutbona fishing jetty on Thursday evening as part of an inspection of the jetty complex.

The inspection comes just hours after Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira chaired a high-level meeting of officials in the district Collectorate earlier in the day. The inspection of the structures also assumes significance and it comes against the backdrop of Minister Aleixo Sequeira taking a firm stand that all the illegal structures on the jetty road will be razed down as per the directions of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Meanwhile, the inspection team has found to their shock and surprise how the property of the Fisheries department has been misused for parking of vehicles and dingy boats. They also came across the structures in the fisheries complex used for fish mending nets when they ought to have been used for productive purpose.

“We have prepared a report of the inspection and the same will be placed with the higher authorities for action,” informed Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar.

He said the team has found around 10 eateries functioning in the structures dotting along the jetty road.
