PANAJI:
The Congress has demanded that local youth should get employment opportunities in Central government offices located in Goa alleging that over the last few years people from other States were being recruited here.
Congress block president from St Cruz John Nazareth who addressed the media said he has written to the Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Nirmala Sitharaman asking that positions in Central government offices located in the State should be filled with locals.
Nazareth, a former president of the Goa government employees Association (GGEA) said that recruitment in the postal department, nationalised banks and other central offices in the State has been cornered by people from other States.
"These people do not understand the local language (Konkan) which causes many problems. People from Maharashtra have been recruited in the postal department because of which many do not get their letters on time," Nazareth said.
"We have demanded that if there is to be recruitment in Goa for both these departments, only a person with a residence certificate for fifteen years and who understands Konkani should be given the opportunity" he said.
