The jobs-for-cash scam raised its ugly head again with two ladies accusing a husband-wife for duo for cheating them of Rs 14 lakh on the promise of giving government jobs for their kith and kin.
Making matters worse for the two ladies was that the Margao police raised the issue of jurisdiction, as they were point blank told to the police stations to lodge their complaints where the money transaction had taken place.
This has only thrown up questions why the police did not accept their complaints and routed the complaints to the respective police stations.
The two ladies, Pratibha Verma and Angela Rebello told the media outside the Margao police station they had handed over the money to the husband-wife duo hailing from Khareband-Sirvodem in Margao on the promise of providing jobs to their kith and kin. The man, whom they had handed over the money, has reportedly expired, as they insisted that his wife refund back the money.
Angela claimed that she had paid cash of Rs 11 lakh to the man, while Pratibha said the husband-wife duo had taken around Rs three lakh from her.
The duo said they apparently fell to the machinations of the husband since he is also a government servant. “I am working in a hospital, where the accused was also working. I fell to his trap after he flaunted his influence with the top political class," Angela said.
Pratibha pointed out that there was nothing wrong in placing their trust and faith in the accused since he too was a government servant.
“Even banks advance loans when a government servant stand as surety. We also placed our faith in this man since he was a government servant”, Pratibha added.
Pratibha claimed that she had initially paid Rs two lakh to this man, but later the husband-wife came to Tilamol and insisted on the balance Rs one lakh saying the job order is expected to come the next day.
