VASCO
A mother-son duo from Vasco, Uma Patil and Shubham Patil, both residents of Baina, were remanded to two days of police custody on Thursday following their arrest in a case of alleged fraud. The pair was taken into custody by Vasco police on Wednesday under Section 420 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code, based on accusations of cheating a Ribandar woman out of Rs. 6 lakh with a false promise of securing her son a government job.
The accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Vasco on Thursday morning, where they were granted a two-day police remand for further investigation.
According to the complaint filed by Rashmi Vinod Chopdekar, a resident of Ribandar, the incident occurred on November 21, 2021, in Vasco. Chopdekar alleged that Uma and Shubham Patil induced her to pay Rs. 6 lakh with the promise of arranging a position for her son as a Police Constable in the Goa Police Department. However, the accused allegedly failed to fulfil the promise or return the money, leading Chopdekar to file a complaint of cheating.
Vasco police had registered an offence and initiated an investigation, ultimately arresting Uma and Shubham Patil under Sections 420 and 34 of the IPC. The case is currently under investigation, led by PSI Palto Carvalho and supervised by PI Kapil Nayak, with the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
