Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Thursday warned that accountability will be fixed on Margao civic officials and staff if files continue to go missing from the civic body.

The Margao MLA took the platform of Margao civic chief Damu Shirodkar’s birthday celebration to send a strong warning that officials involved in the missing files will not go unpunished.

He also underscored the need for the Margao Municipal administration to be pro-active and responsive to the Madgavkars.

While extending his birthday greetings to the Margao Municipal Chairperson at a function at the Margao Municipal building, Kamat gave the civic chief a clean chit, saying Shirodkar is going out of the way to usher in the city’s development.

“I would like to warn Municipal officials and staff that accountability will be fixed if files go missing from the Margao Municipality. There ought to be no complaint henceforth from citizens that their files have gone missing. We will initiate stern action against erring officials and staff,” he warned.

He added: “People should not be made to come to the municipal building again and again. Such a situation reflects badly on the municipal administration. Former BJP leader Pramod Mahajan used to often say that one can check good governance at the panchayat, municipality, Collectorate, police station and bus stand. Here the common man takes a decision whether there’s good governance or not. The officials and staff should be responsive to the people.”

Saying he has been monitoring the functioning of the Margao civic body from close quarters, Kamat said, “I get the reports, who is showing files and leaking out information outside the civic body.”

In his address, the Margao civic chief launched free ambulance services for the people of Aquem area of the city.
