The 25-year-old woman from Karnataka, who was in the news after initially claiming of being raped in Margao during the weekend before retracting her claim, has finally left Margao for her native state on Friday.
After completing the legal formalities, including giving her statement before a Judicial Magistrate and volunteering for medical examination, the woman accompanied by women’s right activist Auda Viegas, a counsellor and police personnel left for her native state on Friday evening.
Auda told the media before they embarked on their journey to Karnataka from the Margao police station that they are accompanying the woman to her native state as she had gone through trauma and ordeal over the rape episode. “We hope that she comes out of the trauma after she had come under the scanner of citizens as well as media over the allegation of rape. The girl has given her statement before the Judicial Magistrate that she was not raped and that she had only lied to the lady,” Auda said.
Auda said the woman has already given her statement before a Judicial Magistrate and had volunteered for medical examination as well.
Meanwhile, the accused Shabrish Manjrekar, who was arrested by the Margao police for human trafficking by bringing the woman from Karnataka to work for an elderly couple at Comba has been remanded to three days police custody.
