Damodar Kaskar and Shradha Mahale took charge as chairperson and vice-chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) after they were officially declared elected unopposed at a special council meeting on Thursday.
At a special meeting chaired by MMC Administrator Raju Gawas, all newly elected councillors were also administered an oath in the presence of MMC Chief Officer Jayant Tari.
After taking charge and occupying their cabins, Kaskar and Mahale assured to take up development works and to take all councillors into confidence. Kaskar added that pre-monsoon works would be taken up on priority.
"I will strive for development works in the city. Besides taking all councillors into confidence, I will also consult and take help from the BJP ministers and legislators Milind Naik, Mauvin Godinho and Carlos Almeida, to ensure we can do work in quick time," said Kaskar.
MMC Vice-Chairperson Shradha Mahale said she would take steps to recover dues and boost the financial status of the MMC.
