CANACONA
A large number of people witnessed Canacona’s Shigmosthav float parade, the last of the week-long State-sponsored celebrations on Tuesday.
The Shigmosthav float parade was flagged off at Char-Rasta by two elderly citizens of Canacona in the presence of Reception Committee Chairman/CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar and Working President Babesh Borkar, Secretary Sarvanand Bhagat, Joint Secretary Subhash Mahale, Treasurer Sara Naik Dessai and others.
Committee Chairman and Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar as well as Chief Guest and Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phadessai could not make it to the flagging off ceremony due to other engagements.
Several participants danced on the street at Nagorcem, while over 18 Chitra-Rath depicting religious, mythological, ethnic and social scenes at the Shigmosthav parade.
Several smaller groups participated in the folk-dance competitions, giving performances at various interval, while a few participated in the individual fancy dress competitions.
Throughout the day, various competitions were held at the main stage on Shri Gaitonde Grounds, Chaudi, where a concluding function was scheduled later in the night.
On the occasion, 26 artistes in different fields were felicitated and 13 different Sarvajanik Ganeshosthav Mandals of Canacona taluka were recognised and appreciated for their contributions to social work.
