The Aam Aadmi Party while hailing the Supreme Court order on municipal elections urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to learn lessons from this verdict and stop resorting to malpractices like rigging elections.
AAP Goa Convener Rahul Mhambre said the SC order very clearly indicates that the BJP was trying to rig the municipal elections to favour its supporters and well wishers as not only reservation of wards but even delimitation of wards was done without following the constitutional requirements.
He pointed out that the High Court had already asked the government to set new election schedule to five municipal councils and the government re-scheduled elections in these five councils even when the matter was pending in the court.
He also asked the chief minister to stop using the State Election Commission as a tool to play his games and added that it was shameful that the Supreme Court had to direct the chief minister to appoint an independent State Election Commission to conduct a free and fair elections.
“Pramod Sawant was using the State Election Commissioner who is a government servant to play his dirty games and by right the State Election Commission should be suspended from service,” he said adding that at least now the chief minister will learn his lesson.
