A leopard is on the prowl in Sarzora village, devouring domestic animals, including cats and dogs from the locality.
The wild cat was captured on CCTV footage as it strayed into the backyard of a residential house at Sarzora in search of prey. The fully grown leopard was seen moving around the house and then jumping over a wall.
The incident was brought to the notice of the Forest department by the house owner, who has inspected the site in order to lay a trap.
The house owner Milton Fernandes told the media that the local residents had found their domestic animals, including cats and dogs, missing in the locality. “The CCTV footage goes to show that it was the handiwork of the leopard as the leopard was found moving around the house,” he said.
Given that the leopard has strayed into the residential locality, the owner has requested the Forest department to take measures to keep the leopard at bay.
Forest officials pointed out that Sarzora village is among the villages coming under the Chandreshwar hill range, which is the home of the wild cats.
