Claiming that the State government is trying to provide better facilities to tourists in order to expand tourism activities along the coast, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said locals are also equally responsible to support the tourism industry.
“While we welcome tourists, we have to see that they are provided with all required facilities,” said Khaunte.
The minister was speaking to reporters after visiting the parking space at Tembwada-Morjim in the presence of Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar, Morjim Sarpanch Mukesh Gadkar, panch Vilas Morje, Deputy Sarpanch Pawan Morje, Anant Shetgaonkar and the local business community.
The minister assured that parking facilities would also be provided to the tourist vehicles at Tembwada-Morjim beach.
Khaunte warned that strict and immediate action would be taken against those who indulge in illegal activities in the coastal belt.
“If a photo about illegal or illegitimate activities along the coastal belt is sent on the email of the tourism department, or sent on their mobile number, action will be taken against those found guilty,” warned the minister.
Khaunte said the locals doing traditional fishing business and running shacks would be allotted space to keep their belongings.
“Unemployed local youth who put small kiosks on the coastal belt will also be provided with concrete stalls. The information centre of the tourist department which is in Tembwada will be removed and a complex with changing rooms and washrooms will be constructed in its place,” said the minister.
Khaunte praised MLA Jit Arolkar for his interest in increasing tourism activity along the coastal belt. Arolkar and Sarpanch Mukesh Gadkar also spoke on the occasion.
