MARGAO
Residents of Borda led by ward councillor Camilo Barretto on Friday stopped a cellular company from installing a tower at the Multipurpose ground, Borda.
The Fatorda police had deployed strong police force at the multipurpose ground as a precautionary measure.
When the heavy duty truck came on the ground to unload the tower material, councillor Camilo objected to the tower, saying the PTA had in the past objected to the tower in the educational premises, which is playing host to around 2,000 children.
That’s not all. Camilo contended that the ground is the only mega ground available for the residents of Borda, including senior citizens and children to come and enjoy leisure time. “We had objected to the tower on grounds that around 2,000 students are studying in the complex and they may be affected by the radiation,” he said.
While Camilo objected to the unloading of tower material, the police intervened saying the company has obtained the permissions from the government to install the tower. He, however, insisted the NOC and the permission by the Margao Municipal Council before commencing work.
