MARGAO
With the beautification of the Lohia Maidan, Margao missing the December deadline, hopes have been raised that ongoing work to give the historic place a befitting face-lift will be finally completed in all respects in early March.
This became evident when the Additional Director of Municipal Administrator inspected the Lohia Maidan along with officials of the Margao Municipal Council and the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) inspected the historic place on Thursday to take stock of the ongoing work.
After the inspection, Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar said the contractor has handed out an assurance that the beautification work on the Lohia Maidan will be finally complete within a fortnight.
He said GUSDA has agreed to hand over the Lohia Maidan to the Margao Municipal Council after the completion of the beautification works within a fortnight. “The MMC had handed over the Lohia Maidan to GSUDA to take up the beautification works. After the agency complete the work in all respects, the Maidan will be finally handed back over to the civic body”, he said.
After an inspection of the Lohia Maidan in December with MMC and GSUDA officials, Congress turned BJP MLA Digambar Kamat had set December 31, 2022 as the deadline for the completion of the work in all respects. The deadline, however, had gone abegging with work still underway at the historic place.
