The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) will soon float a tender for the 16-bedded Urban Health Centre, with OPD and dialysis facilities in the Cuncolim municipal area.

Once completed, the Urban Health Centre will cater to the needs of the local populace as well as the migrant floating population working at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate. An Urban Health Centre was a long-felt need in Cuncolim town with the municipal area under the jurisdiction of the Balli Primary Health Centre.

An inspection of the land acquired by the Cuncolim Municipal Council was conducted by Cuncolim MLA and Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, along with GSIDC officials and Cuncolim Municipal Councillors, to review the health project as well as a sports auditorium.

After the inspection, Yuri told the media that he is committed to bringing these projects to reality. Recalling that his father, former minister Joaquim Alemao, had also planned to bring the Health Centre in Cuncolim, the MLA said that the promise he had made to the locals would soon be fulfilled.

“To meet the demand of a growing population and as thousands of workers are engaged in industrial units, this Health Centre is essential. Hence, we had initiated its process and it is almost ready to float a tender. I am optimistic that this work will start soon,” Alemao said.

He said that the proposed Urban Health Centre will have 16 beds, in addition to most of the required health facilities. “Even for injuries, we have to rush to the District Hospital in Margao. Hence, there was a need for the Urban Health Centre,” he added. Alemao emphasised that most facilities will be available to the public, filling a critical gap in healthcare services.

Saying that a sports auditorium will also be constructed in the area, he stated that it will provide a platform for local youth to develop and showcase their talents. “These initiatives will revolutionise healthcare and sports infrastructure, greatly benefiting the locals. I am thankful to my Cuncolinkars for supporting such projects, which are in the interest of all,” Alemao said, as he thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane for the Urban Health Centre project in Cuncolim.
