As Aeroflot announced shifting of its operations from Dabolim to Mopa, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has said that BJP’s revenge against South Goa would soon render Dabolim as a ghost airport.

“Revenge of Lok Sabha Defeat. One more blow to South Goa by insensitive BJP Government. Soon Dabolim will turn into a ghost airport destroying economy of South Goa. Will Chief Minister Pramod Sawant continue to give lip service or act?," questioned the Leader of Opposition.

Reacting to the announcement of Aeroflot Airlines to shift its operations to Mopa International Airport, the Opposition Leader slammed BJP Government for promoting private operators at the cost of Public Sector Undertakings.

“I demand that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should immediately convene a meeting of all elected MLAs  and Member of Parliament of South Goa along with all concerned authorities and stakeholders and later take a delegation to the Prime Minister of India to ensure that Dabolim International Airport continues, stated Yuri.

He added: “I had raised the alarm bell in 2022 that Dabolim Airoport will turn into a ghost airport if Government does not take pro-active steps to continue its operations. Unfortunately, Government did nothing and remained a mute spectator to airlines shifting one after the other, claimed Yuri.

Reminding that he had alerted the Government after Qatar Airways had announced shifting of its operations to Mopa, Yuri warned that slowly all airlines will shift to Mopa, adding “It looks like I will be proved right soon."

Charging the BJP Government for deliberately ignoring the damage done to Dabolim Airport due to BJP's weak base in South Goa, Yuri said the BJP wants South Goa to suffer because people of South Goa do not support BJP's policies and agenda.
