Made maximum contribution as CM to boost Konkani: Sawant

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday stated that he had done more for Konkani than any other chief minister, with efforts to promote the language at the State, national and global levels.

He was addressing the inaugural function of the 26th Goa Yuva Mohotsav organised by Goa Konkani Bhasha Mandal at the Narayan Zantye Commerce College in Bicholim, in the presence of Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye, Mayem MLA Premendra Shet and others.

“As chief minister, I have done more for Konkani than anyone else before, including the use of Konkani in government administration and in staff selection. We have provided all kinds of support to the Konkani Bhasha Mandal with a good office and other facilities. We have made sincere efforts to promote Konkani language at the national and global levels,” said Sawant.

“My government has not failed to take the work of Konkani literature and language forward. My government is committed to providing new opportunities to the youth and we have worked for the prosperity of Konkani that no one has done before”, he said.

Speaking further, the chief minister stated that youth is the inspiration of the country and such festivals aim to encourage the talents of the youth while preserving culture of the land.

Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye said youth should contribute to the formation of the country by following the right values and ethics.

“Along with degrees, society and the country are important and youth should contribute to success in the exams of life. Youth should focus their energy constructively and for the benefit of the society and the country,” said Dr Shetye.

Mayem MLA Premendra Shet also emphasised the importance of harnessing the power of youth to take the country on the path of progress.

Ratnamala Divkar, Rupesh Thanekar, and Rajendra Kumbhar Juvekar also spoke at the event.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant presented the youth award to Nandan Cuncolkar.

Others present on the occasion included Konkani Bhasha Mandal Chairperson Ratnamala Divkar, Vice-Chairperson Rupesh Thanekar, and principal Rajendra Kumbhar Juvekar.
