The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central government, accusing it of being indifferent to the struggles of the middle class and economically weaker sections.

The Congress party’s women's wing demanded an immediate rollback of the recent hike in LPG prices, terming it a burden on the common man.

Mahila Congress President Pratiksha Khalap said the government has shown "complete disregard" for the poor, middle class, and lower-middle class, who are already grappling with high inflation.

"Loot, torture, and extortion are now synonymous with the functioning of this anti-people government," Khalap said, while addressing a news conference in Mapusa.

She highlighted the plight of single women and widows surviving on daily wages, stating, “If a woman earns ₹5,000 per month, ₹850 goes just towards an LPG cylinder. How is she supposed to manage her household?”

Khalap also criticized the BJP for failing to implement the Ujjwala scheme effectively.

“The government had promised free cylinders but never delivered. Instead, they increase prices sharply after elections, only offering minor relief beforehand to mislead voters,” she alleged.

She further pointed out that crude oil prices have fallen by 41 per cent since 2014, yet LPG prices remain unjustifiably high.

Vice President of the Mapusa Mahila Congress, Deepa Dhupdale and Tivim Mahila Congress Block, President Mollie Da Gama were also present.
