A man posing as a policeman allegedly deceived a woman and made off with her gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 1.8 lakh at Vaddem, Vasco.
According to Vasco Police, the incident occurred on October 30, but the victim, a resident of Vaddem-Vasco, reported the matter on Tuesday.
The woman stated that a man, aged between 45 to 50 years, with a wheatish complexion and a height of around 5 feet 2 inches, approached her claiming to be a policeman.
The suspect warned her about potential dangers and insisted on securing her valuables for "safety."
The accused, on the pretext of safeguarding her gold ornaments, further removed her gold bangles and mangalsutra, which were placed in her handbag. The impersonator took the ornaments and fled from the scene before she realised the deception.
Vasco Police have registered an offence under Sections 319 (2) and 303 (2) of the BNS 2023 Act.
PSI Priyanka Patil of Vasco Police Station is heading the investigation under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
Police have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals attempting similar schemes to deceive and dupe people of their valuables.
