Mandrem MLA seeks scrapping of Pernem draft zoning plan

Claiming that the decision to keep the Pernem taluka draft zoning plan in abeyance is unacceptable to people of the taluka, Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has insisted that the plan should be completely scrapped.

“We are not against any development, and we welcome it. However, this development should be in the interest of the local community. Our lands are for our future generations and to keep them intact, this draft zoning plan should be cancelled,” said Arolkar, while addressing a news conference in Virnoda.

Demanding the scrapping of the current plan, Arolkar said the government should work out a new plan by taking into account local sentiments and their suggestions.

“The agitation will continue until the current plan is scrapped, said Arolkar.

Those present at the news conference included Mandrem Sarpanch Adv. Amit Sawant, Tuem Sarpanch Sulakshana Naik, Agarwada-Chopdem Sarpanch Sachin Raut, MG Mandal president Pravin Vaingankar, Mandrem Panch Prashant (Bala) Naik, Panch Sagar Tilve, Tuem former Sarpanch Kishor Naik and panch Sunita Bugde Desai.

Mandrem Sarpanch Adv. Amit Sawant said keeping the Pernem taluka draft zoning plan in abeyance would be of no use.

“The plan should be totally scrapped. We are demanding the cancellation of the zoning plan and until our demand is fulfilled, we will continue the protest,” said Adv. Sawant.

Mandrem panch Prashant Naik said the people of Pernem taluka are vigilant would not allow mass conversion of land for commercial purposes.

“We will take the agitation forward and with the support of all people, we will oppose this plan,” said Prashant Naik.

Tuem Sarpanch Sulakshana Naik also spoke at the news conference.
